A very special Sacred Sunday for you all to dance in to as we have SDG accredited facilitator Judith Rose and her dance partner Igor Sharapahyuk join us for a viewing of their recent award winning film “The Soul of Gender”. Judith and Igor will give us a brief introduction of the project, we’ll view the film together followed by a facilated Q&A with Judith and Igor, they will teach us a phrase from the choreography so we can all embody the experience and we’ll end with an open time for questions and dancing dialogue.
Synopsis: The story of Gender, in much of early World Mysticism, begins with the creation of the human as one multi-gendered being, severed by divine decree. Using an intensely dramatic, symbolic, and archetypal dance vocabulary that includes the use of hand-designed theater masks, GNDR, examines the historical and contemporary fallout of this myth, as two individuals struggle to reclaim original wholeness.
Contemporary Relevance: The theme of this project is particularly relevant at this time in our world. The subject of Gender has been broken open and has offered many individuals, particularly young adults, the opportunity to examine their personal truths and identities for the very first time. These inquiries are often layered with confusion, relief, ambiguity, or reticence.
Judith Rose, one of the Sacred Dance Guild’s accredited facilitators, the founder of Vital Movement, is an experienced educator, choreographer, poet and movement artist. She has extensive training in a variety of movement arts and therapeutic modalities from around the globe. She studied and trained with David Leventhal, the direct of the Mark Morris Dance for Parkinson’s Disease program, which has inspired her to create aunique eldercare program of movement, Judith is known for her original workshops and movement journeys which have traveled to studios in many universities and dance centers. Judith’s work is a passionate devotion that is deeply grouned in the belief that the arts provide a medium for personal and communal hearling and transformation.
We are blessed to have Judith and Igor gifting us their presence with a generosity of spirit that flows through the Sacred Dance Guild village!
