Sacred Sunday – Birthing the Holy: Dancing with Mary and the Sacred Feminine
January 21 @ 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm UTC-4
The Sacred Dance Guild continues to offer Sacred Sunday experiences monthly – generally on the 2nd Sunday of the month and generally at 7:30 pm Eastern time! (“our” regular Sacred Sunday in January is the 3rd week! See the “special” Sacred Sunday on January 14th!) A program that began during the pandemic and now continues because we CAN, not because we MUST! These sessions are intimate, interactive and information offerings that are free to the participants, gifted to the Sacred Dance Guild “village” by the presenter and coordinated by the SDG as a way to CONNECT us one to another! NOTE: time showing is Eastern – DO check time in your local time zone!!
To register send email to firstname.lastname@example.org with “Sacred Sunday Birthing the Holy” in the subject line. The Zoom link will be sent to you the day before the session.
As sacred dancers, we often encounter the divine in the flesh of our own bodies. We know ourselves as vessels of the holy. As embodied practitioners, we also look for images and persona in sacred traditions who echo back to us this mystery. One such figure is Mother Mary, an archetypal figure from scripture, who has throughout centuries come to represent, for many, both a mystical and down-to-earth feminine embodiment of the holy.
At this Sacred Sunday, meet Betsey Beckman, choreographer and longtime sacred dancer who will share her journey of creating 12 Dance Videos that explore many facets of Mary and the Sacred Feminine. For 60 years, Betsey has danced in churches, at conferences, and across continents. For the past 15 years, she has worked with Abbey of the Arts to create a body of work that focuses on simple prayer dances filmed in beautiful natural settings. The videos can be viewed as meditations or by an invitation to the viewer to dance along. Betsey’s newest DVD collaboration with Abbey of the Arts is entitled Birthing the Holy: Dancing with Mary and the Sacred Feminine.
At this gathering, you are invited to meet Mary for the first time or deepen your connection to her as potent sister-guide in the realm of the sacred feminine. Taste a sample of the 12 dances and learn some simple choreography to enter into the journey. Catch glimpses of the various movement meditations filmed in churches, oceansides, stables, and Ugandan hillsides. Let this be a time of joy in midwifing each other to birth beauty for our world!
We are blessed to have Betsey gifting us her presence with a generosity of spirit that flows through the Sacred Dance Guild village!
