Humankind – A Sacred Dance Experience
December 2, 2023 @ 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm UTC+0
Join the Sacred Dance Guild for the first in person performances in Canada of “Humankind” – a 45 minute story through music and movement that focuses on our treatment of refugees and immigrants; it is a response to the world crises of over 117.5 million displaced persons on the planet. It addresses the life of our neighbors who are global refugees, including issues of uprooting and trauma, insularity and acceptance, assimilation and diversity, affirming the truth that all humanity is essentially connected. The haunting music was created by Debbie Danbrook – a Canadian composer and recording artist. This offering is an “experience” both for those dancing and those in the audience – ALL are welcome to come through the door with open hearts.
There are TWO performances – 2:00 – 3:00 pm and 7:30 – 8:30 pm – at Britannia United Church, Ottawa.
The performances are free and open to all. There will be a free will offering with all proceeds going to the Ottawa Interchurch Refugee Group – an ecumenical registered charity that has been sponsoring and settling refugee newcomers to Canada in the Ottawa area for over thirty-two years, one family at a time.
This performance in Ottawa follows the first in person performance of Humankind held in New York City at St. Paul’s Chapel last year on Sept. 22, 2022 (see Trinity Movement Choir: Humankind | Trinity Church Wall Street (trinitywallstreet.org) and during the pandemic the first virtual performance of offered at the Parliament of the World’s Religions on-line conference in October 2021.
