Sacred Sunday – “Exploring Movement as Prayer” with Jessica Abejar

June 28 @ 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm

In this session, we will explore what it means to be a “moving prayer,” finding unique ways to express ourselves while nurturing and uplifting our mind, body, and spirit. We will take a look at seven movement vocabularies that will aid us in improv and creative movement. Movers of all levels welcome.

Jessica Abejar is the Founder of The Moving Prayer, a sacred dance company that nurtures the mind, body, and spirit. Through The Moving Prayer, she has performed, presented, and led workshops in sacred and liturgical dance all over the world at events and houses of worship including the World Youth Day Festival, National Conference for Catholic Youth Ministry, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, New York Catholic Youth Day, Dominican Youth Movement USA, and the Sacred Dance Guild.

Jessica is an alumna of Dance/USA’s Institute for Leadership Training, completing a mentorship program under sacred and liturgical dance pioneer Carla DeSola. She is also a former member of Dance/NYC’s Junior Committee and participated in Gibney Dance Center’s Institute of Community Action Training.

She is a part of the sacred dance community in New York City and has performed with several other sacred and liturgical dance companies and movement choirs. She currently is one of the Co-Vice Presidents of the Sacred Dance Guild.
