Sacred Sunday ...... How Beautiful Upon the Mountain..... with Carlynn Reed
Date: February 12, 2023-
Location: On line from Toronto - 7:30 pm EST - check local times!!
The Sacred Dance Guild’s Sacred Sunday program has shifted – like the rest of the world!! For the two + years of the pandemic, we hosted a gathering each Sunday evening. As our global experience re-emerges we have moved our Sacred Sundays to monthly – generally it will be the 2nd Sunday of the month (but do stay connected as we might have “pop up” Sacred Sundays or change the week due to other events)! We continue to host these online gatherings to be “Socially Present” while “Physically Distant” because we can – no longer because we must! These live from our living room sessions are free, informal, intimate and interactive and are open to participants who want to connect in this way.
To register for this session send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with “Sacred Sunday – Carlynn” in the subject line.
The month of February is an important milestone for the Sacred Dance Guild! On February 10, 2023 we will have completed 65 revolutions around the sun!! From those beginnings in New England in 1958 the Sacred Dance Guild has continually grown, shifted, opened, explored and experienced dance as an expression of the sacred. What an amazing journey of discovery it has been! For this month’s Sacred Sunday we are honored to have Carlynn Reed back with us sharing her story and her dance! Carlynn will take us on a journey in time exploring together a piece she created and danced at a Sacred Dance Guild Festival many years ago.
Carlynn Reed became active in the Sacred Dance Guild in 1971 where she learned how to weave together her faith in God and love of dance. Carolynn wrote the first “history” book of the Sacred Dance Guild “And We Have Danced” which was published in 1978 – 45 years ago on the 20th Anniversary of the SDG! Being a theatre artist as well as dancer, Carlynn has created many works that blend dialogue and movement. In 2012 she ventured into competitive dance in the cabaret section of the ballroom world (see You Raise Me up – Carlynn Reed with Carlos Zapata performs cabaret dance at 2017 Canada Superstars – YouTube). This is where she learned to fly, and earned numerous awards. Currently she works from project to project with a dance theatre partner, telling the stories that are important to her (following the death of her beloved son Chris in 2021 – More than Breath – YouTube. ) She also works with kids, writing scripts and preparing them for performances in her church. Carlynn was a Major Presenter at the 50th Anniversary Sacred Dance Guild Festival in 2008 at Connecticut College.
The Sacred Dance Guild is blessed to have Carlynn gifting her presence with us leading this Sacred Sunday session. During this time on our planet when our lives have changed in ways we couldn’t have imagined, continuing our personal, collective and global mind/body/spirit connection is so important to all of us. We are grateful for those who lead us on these journeys of discovery as we dance on waves of grace together.
