This week our facilitator is Jolyn Washington-Walker, born and raised in Harlem, New York and one of nine children.  Jolyn has studied African Dance practically all of her life.  She began in the public school system in New York City.  Her dance foundation is traditional African Dance and choreographing specialty is for large groups that spans all generations. Jolyn studied African Dance in New York at LeRocque Bey School of African Dance and additional study at a teacher’s institute in Ghana, West Africa. Jolyn served as the Praise Dance ministry leader at First Baptist church in Milford Connecticut for 19 years and was the African Dance and Sacred Dance Teacher at Choate Rosemary Hall for 14 years. Currently, Jolyn is Director of the CT State Missionary Baptist Convention’s Liturgical Division.  For Jolyn, African and Praise dance is more than just an ART, it is a way of LIFE!

JOIN us to dance into an hour of African/American Praise Dance!  If you have flags, bring them along.  If not, bring a piece of fabric or a scarf – they can be small (18″ or so) so that we can actually use them on zoom!!  Sonia Kong says “The key to understanding our warfare is in knowing that it is primarily spiritual. We are not wrestling against flesh and blood. The battle is not against another human being, but with principalities, powers, rulers of darkness and spiritual wickedness in high places (Eph. 6:12).”  Let’s dance and explore this form of liturgical dance together!

The Sacred Dance Guild is blessed to have Jolyn once again gifting her presence with us leading this Sacred Sunday session.  During this period when we are emerging from a time where our lives changed in ways we couldn’t have imagined, we continue our personal, collective and global mind/body/spirit connection.  We are grateful for those who lead us on these journeys of discovery as we dance on waves of grace together.  We will be using ZOOM for Sunday’s sessions.
