The Sacred Dance Guild continues to offer our Sacred Sunday program. Most Sundays we host an on line gathering to be “Socially Present” while “Physically Distant“! These live from our living room sessions are free, informal, intimate and interactive sharings and are open to participants who want to connect in this way. The “theme” for the month of February is “Attunement”.
To register send an email to pres@sacreddanceguild.org with “Sacred Sunday – Ensoulment” in the Subject line.
In this session, Cynthia Winton-Henry will take us on another journey of discovery. Honoring the body and soul, we’ll tap into the four arts that align humans to the sacred in all things, no matter what! Through the dance we experience our spiritual support, creative birthrights, divine purpose, and a way to bow to suffering by dancing on behalf of one another.
Cynthia Winton-Henry is a dancer, theologian, designer, author, teacher, and spiritual director. A life time of research into body and soul includes choreographing and performing with Body and Soul Dance Company and leading Sacred Dance Guild festivals at Pacific School of Religion, where she taught for twenty years. In 1989 she co-founded InterPlay with Phil Porter, an improvisational, art-based community-building practice designed to unlock the wisdom of the body. They curated InterPlay performances worldwide, including the Unbelievable Beauty of Being Human and developed a network of leaders who love to dance, sing, tell stories, and affirm the wisdom of the body. In 2021, she graduated from her executive director role to focus on The Art of Ensoulment, where she and others are developing a theo-kinetic approach and theology that honors the dance of life.
On the Hidden Monastery website at cynthiawinton-henry.com, she hosts online dance chapels, classes and retreats. Her books include The Playbook for the Art of Ensoulment for her year-long course that begins each January, Chasing the Dance of Life: A Faith Journey by Apocryphile Press, Dance: The Sacred Art: The Joy of Movement as a Spiritual Practice by Turner Publishing, Move: What the Body Wants ( The practice of InterPlay) by Woodlake Press, and “Grace Operatives: How Body Wisdom Saved the World” Phenomenologies of Grace, edited by Marcus Bussey by Paraclete Press.
The Sacred Dance Guild is blessed to have Cynthia gifting her presence with us leading this Sacred Sunday session. During this time when our lives have changed in ways we couldn’t have imagined, continuing our personal, collective and global mind/body/spirit connection is so important. We are grateful for those who lead us on these journeys of discovery as we dance on waves of grace together. We will be using ZOOM for Sunday’s sessions.
