Indigenous Sacred Dancing: A Gateway to the Higher Self
Date: June 7, 2021-
Location: On Line
Through the San Francisco Zen Center – Offered by Sacred Dance Guild member Carla Walter
Eight meetings: Monday, June 7 – Friday, June 11 & Monday, June 14 – Wednesday, June 16, 7:30 – 9 am PT
In this 8-class series Carla will guide participants through choreographies of Tibetan Sacred Dance known for facilitating an Entry Point to the Higher Self in the Bon’Po tradition. The Entry Point is a gateway and a place of Awareness and Awakening. The month of June honors Transformations, and Tibetan dance meditations have a history of sparking them. Performed by monastics and lay people especially during the Monlam, the Tibetan Sacred Dance embodies moral instruction on compassion, movement meditation, and communal prayers aimed at spreading the Dharma, transforming obstacles and evil, and generating harmonious conditions for everyone.
Each class in this series will build on the previous one, gradually developing a complete sacred dance that participants can choose to perform during the eighth and final session. Participants will learn beautiful choreography, and the way of sacred dance as a form of spiritual practice. Low impact options will be offered, and participants may engage with the practice while sitting.
