Global Water Dance.... the Wave Continues....
Date: September 22, 2017- September 24, 2017
Location: Ottawa, Ontario
The Global Water Dance will take place world wide on June 24th, 2017! One of the creators of this phenomena is Marylee Hardenbergh. Marylee is a choreographer, dance therapist and co-founder and artistic director of Global Water Dances. For over 25 years, Marylee has created site-specific dance performances at places such as a wastewater treatment plant in Minnesota and the bombed-out Parliament Building in Sarajevo, Bosnia and the Volga River in Russia. She also created “One River Mississippi,” a dance performance simultaneously occurring at seven sites along the Mississippi River from the headwaters through St. Louis, Memphis and New Orleans. In 2011, she co-founded Global Water Dances, whose aim is to raise awareness about water issues and unite people around water preservation and appreciation by coordinating dances happening on the same day around the globe. To learn more about Marylee Hardenbergh, please visit her Global Site Performance web site and the Global Water Dances web site. We also recommend this video about Global Water Dances.
The Ottawa Sacred Dance Guild network will be participating in the June 24th Global Water Dance and will continue the theme throughout the summer with a one day workshop on July 22 with Tricia mary Lee of Australia, a Moving Meditation dance performance with Debbie Danbrook at the Rock Sculptures on the Ottawa River on August 5th and will complete the season with a full weekend workshop with Marylee Hardenbergh September 22 – 24. The weekend will included workshops on Friday evening and Saturday, an open session on Saturday night and a performance somewhere on a waterway in Ottawa on the Sunday afternoon.
